that's the exact reason why i would recommend separating the gui
"drawing" code from the Pd-fiels, preferably in separate *files*: you
should be able to replace the GUI-implementation without having to
touch the Pd-object implementation.

but yes, that means that you have to distribute multiple files.
i don't see any problems with that.
(any "libdir" conformant external will anyhow consist of multiple
files bundled within a directory).

but then, it also means that you *can* ship multiple
GUI-implementations with a single installer.
