[PD-dev] updated instance handling and made pull request to libpd

Seconded.

I’ll wait for Peter B to weigh in before taking action, but it’s looking good to me as the current functionality is preserved. When the instance code is finalized, we can add the define to the main libpd makefile & Xcode project.
