[PD-dev] knowing when the patch is in edit mode for an external?

Hi folks. Recently I've implemented improvements to cyclone/comment so it
behaves like in Max. This is still a work in progress, but what I have is
that I'm showing the inlet when I get into edit mode. Inlet disappears when
I get out of edit mode. I'm still doing other things that depend on getting
in and out of edit mode, like showing an outline.

I might do that for cyclone/scope~ as well

The thing is that I'm doing a quite dirty hack for that, which is listening
to messages the patch gets, kinda like iemguts/receivecanvas and I don't
like this hack, I'd rather it'd be possible to do it in an easier way.

And I know that the comments in Pd will also react to getting in and out of
edit mode, to show the vertical line to the right. I don't really know how
it does it and if it is possible to do it in the same way for an external.

If it's not possible - as I'm assuming it is not - what would need to
change to allow this to be easily queried by an external object?

So yeah, this is basically a feature request :)

thanks
Alex
