Does this mean, 0.23-1 works, and 0.23-2 and 0.23-3 don´t, and finally 0.23-4 segfaults (getting worse :)).
I think it is rather a problem with the linux MIDI part, which is located in the linux subdirectory.
I have reports that pd-0.23-2 works. I have to look what is different between 0.23-1 and 0.23-2.

After all, the differences between 0.23-1 and 0.23-4 are minimal in respect to functionality of pd,
they were rather intended for Linux specific changes.

How does this ineffectiveness show itself ?
The step from pd-0.22 to pd-0.23 was rather big, but probably only Miller and Mark can shed some light on what
really changed.

I should check myself some MIDI gear and work on it too, maybe Wini can help us out and tell, what I have done wrong
in the newest version.
