The linux binary segfaults on my Debian2.1 system

What are the requirements to compile the sources ?
A simple 'make' gives:

make: *** No rule to make target
`/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-redhat-linux/egcs-2.91.66/include/stddef.h',
needed by `g_canvas.o'.  Stop.
