multiple channels in pd

i have never tried RME or other multichannel cards with pd but i used 4
sb-128pci soundcards for a cheap 8-channel (dac~ 1 , dac~ 2 ... dac~ 8) solution
in an exhibition(different interviews[mono-soundfiles] triggered by external
midi events).
this solution worked fine, but i didn't (have to) care for sync.
