your externals will be "dll"s, so there's nothing about doing this
"first"...

"nmake pd_nt" is short for "nmake -f makefile pd_nt"
"pd_nt" is an option of the "makefile" that describes that you want to do
a win32 compilation (so you can compile 1 external with 1 makefile for
various systems; on linux machines you would have to do a "make pd_linux";
of course a "nmake pd_linux" would result into an error on win32-machines)
make sure, you edit the makefile to fit into your system : for me, i have
to set the VC-variable and i have to replace the "\ftp\pd\..." by my
pd-path (pe: c:\pd\...)
this should do
