getsize question

hello, 

is it possible to get the size data of various arrays using the
getsize-object. if yes, how is it done?
"getsize" only seems to work with templates and pointers and I still
couldn't make any sense out of them, at least not from the reference patches. 

what's the general idea behind the "templates"-stuff ?

last question. has anyone writing pd-externals ever made an object similar
to max's "coll" or "funbuff"-object ?
