Multithreaded soundfile writing?

I notice there does not seem to be an object that will stream a
soundfile in a lower-priority thread. So far, we have sfwrite in GG
externals, and sfrecord in Zexy externs. 

Is there a particular reason that there isn't a multithreaded sound-file
writer yet (other than simple lack of time)?

I think I might take a crack at one, using pthreads (like the converse
of readsf~). 

Is it a good idea to do this? If so, are there any potential problems I
should be aware of?
