automatic opening of subpatches

I would like to have a patch automatically open the "data" canvas with
my datastructures.
All the example files seem to do this, but I can't seem to get my patch
to behave the same way.
Is there some message I can send to open it?

BTW is there some documentation on ;pd messages ,
what messages are there, what do they do. The documentation is a bit
sparse there.
