writing externals: A_GIMME

sorry, but somehow most of last posting vanished ... i give it a new try

I'm about to dive into the undocumented depths of writing externals for
PD...
Only one question for the moment: What is an A_GIMME argument for?

PS. sending a - as i understand it - reserved "dsp" message to a stream
object crashes PD.
