[PD] another MIDI question (newbie)

hello - i've installed 0.32 on a dell inspiron 4000 running RH 7.1.  the
soundcard is a maestro 3.  when i start pd i get "error: failed to open
MIDI ports; continuing without MIDI."  the error log shows A/D/A sync
errors.  audio works fine otherwise.  i'm using the default OSS driver for
the maestro.

your help is greatly appreciated!
