[PD] pd on win98 (newbie)

hey

i just downloaded pd, and experimented a bit with it.
i had a great time but....

i thinks pd is running quite slow on my system, even when i drag a project to
another position on my desktop, it doesn't go very smooth.

when i use the metronome object, set to 10 milliseconds, the output can't keep up with it !
it goes like this: 1, 93,234, not very smooth

somebody know how to fix this ? 
all help is very appreciated !!
