objects which are compiled for windows (xx.dll)
are not compatible to objects compiled for linux
(xx.pd_linux).
the linux port of gem is mantained by guenther geiger,
you can download it at
ftp://xdv.org/pub/gige/gem
depending on your distribution, you might need to
compile it yourself.

if you happen to own a soundblaster live! you are
out of luck: pd does not support midi under linux
(it does under win)
any other cards working under linux shall work
for pd as well.
be sure to read the pd documentation by Miller Puckette,
