[PD] pd vs. max

Hello all,

I'm new to pd, I find it facinating.  This list is a great resource.
My questions for right now are, how different is pd from max/msp and is
there any way to port max/msp patches over for use with pd?
The documentation and patches look very similar, was wondering if
I can use max documentation to elaborate on what's out there for pd.
