i once wrote:

and it works under linux and windows,

but it looks that it doesnt behave well under W2000 (see pdwiki
above ) since it does a blocked read so realtime performance could be bad.

...if some windows guru can make a clean solution, i tried the the code
from the VC++ help files and didnt succeed.
