[PD] driver for rme hammerfall?

by reading through the mailinglist i got a little bit confusing, could 
sombody tell me what driver i should use now for the rme hammerfall card? i 
tried with latest alsa (0.9.12) but had no success with the alsa driver, only 
the oss emulation of the alsa driver is working also with 8 channels but only 
as user(not as root?? ), i compiled pd with --enable-alsa


this is what i get if im loged in as root?

[root at snd alex]# /usr/local/bin/pd -outchannels 8
couldn't open MIDI input device 1
couldn't open MIDI output device 1
opened 0 MIDI input device(s) and 0 MIDI output device(s).
OSS: requested audio buffer size 28224 limited to 8192
channel 3: non-open: istate 2 != open
channel 3: non-open: ostate 64 != open


as normal user its working?
