That's a "Unixcism": /tmp is a directory on every unixish operating system,
somehow like C:\temp on Windows. If the patch would try to write to C:\temp
we Linux users would complain ;)

Maybe PD should have it's own tmp-directory for writing files... But that
wouldn't work well in a multi user environment...
