[PD] MIDI Note Off

I've just started looking at MIDI stuff in PD, and could use a pointer
to some basic information that I'm not seeing in the online help.

I've hooked up a MIDI keyboard (Midiman Oxygen 8) to a laptop (running
under Windows for now, since I haven't yet been able to get the USB MIDI
to work under Linux). From what I can tell, the built in notein function
is monophonic, and only handles "note in" but not "note off" coming in
from the keyboard. Is this correct? Is there a way to catch "note off"
messages? (If so, that would be a way around the polyphonic issue for
what I'm trying to do now.) Is there another way to handle a polyphonic
keyboard?

I have a feeling I've just missed something that will be obvious when
explained. Thanks for any enlightenment.
