The problem is that with the new version it searches everywhere, whereas
before it was searching only in gem/.. and its subdirectories.
(Which was still slow if you extract gem in your (huge) home directroy
directly).
Another problem that existed was that it would find libraries in one
of your old gem-xx source trees, therefore reincorporating bugs that
where already fixed ..
