the problem is most likely, that mandrake uses the gcc-3.x (g++-3.x) as
a standard, whereas i have never heard of someone succesfully getting
Gem compile with this compiler.
do you have an alternate compiler (gcc/++-2.9x) ?

oh.
having had a closer look on your compilation log, reveals following:
you do have to have the GemLibs installed
try executing the "makeauxlibs" script (which is a wee bit buggy:
the "test"-line should have square brackets somewhere...

btw. my french is quite bad by now, could you translate
"Aucun fichier ou répertoire de ce type" ?

the GemLibs are (according to your log) not built correctly (instead it
ties to build the sources,...)
try cd'ing into Gem/../GemLibs and executing "makeauxlibs" there
does this work ?
then run configure in Gem/src/Gnu again and make.

btw (advertising):
you can checkout a CVS-Gem (both Gem and GemLibs) with
"
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous at cvs.gem.iem.at:/cvsroot/pd-gem co Gem GemLibs
"
(unfortunately GemLibs is the linux-only version by now)
