[PD] Gem failed after compiled against gcc 3.2 on GentooLinux

hi ppl,
i got rid of yuv dir and all references on it and finally got Gem
installed against gcc 3.2, but when i do:
$ pd -lib /usr/local/lib/pd/externs/Gem

i get:

couldn't open MIDI input device 1
couldn't open MIDI output device 1
opened 0 MIDI input device(s) and 0 MIDI output device(s).
GEM: IOhannes m zmoelnig
GEM: ver: 0.87+cvs
GEM: compiled: Jan 12 2003

which sounds cool but when i try 1st example and do [create], it says:

error: GEM: Unable to create single buffer window
error: GEM: Error creating const context
error: GEM: A serious error occured creating const Context
error: GEM: Do not continue!


and i didn't continue :)

any suggestions...
