[PD] Syncing videos, images and text with music

I'm toying with the idea of syncing videos, images and
text with music. I want to have a pre-defined
collection of videos, images and phrases that will
react to the music that i select. For instance, when a
kick drum appears, i want to trigger an image, when a
snare appears, i want to trigger an image, and so on.
This way, the visual output would react to the music
that i select to be played, resulting in a different
visual output for each music i choose to play in PD.

The problem is that i don't have a clue of how to do
this (Maybe with FFT or something?). :) So, can anyone
please point me a direction of how to do this? (i'm
using PD and GEM in Windows XP).
