it's definitely a feature, and it's (i think) exactly what olaf is looking
for.
it was documented officially for the number box somewhere. and i guess
since then it's just been implied. lots of objects take set messages.
maybe my example doesn't explain it well, and makes it sound like a bug,
but the semantics are quite sane.
