Hi August,
maybe you could describe what you want to do?

I think using a thread for the creation of a real-time audio stream only
makes sense if you have to compose the audio from large or irregularly sized
or jittery chunks of data e.g. large FFTs or net streaming.
For typical sample-to-sample audio PD's DSP callback mechanism is the best
choice.

For non-realtime audio you may have a look at VASP
(http://www.parasitaere-kapazitaeten.net/vasp)
