yes they listen, krystof said that the fact that [t a] munges bangs is a
bug. if you know of any other situations where the input of [t a] differs
from it's output, it is also a bug.

Actually the message I had written this in is the message that got
lost; it appeared on the list ~24 hours later (when the thread had already
calmed down); and I just got a message from my mailserver that denies it
has ever been sent successfully.

weird.
