[PD] sorting symbols from numbers

Thanks for the suggestion David,

Does not work though, it recognizes the message "1" as a float, but not "hello" as a symbol. 
If I convert both to symbols then it recognizes them both as symbols. no floats! arg.

Someone else must have found a need to do this?
