I wouldn't run such a thing under Vmware. I never tried, but you get
an emulation layer in between, which probably is bad for latency. But
why don't you just install Pd on Windows? Gem runs there, as well. You
don't *need* to run Linux for Pd. I am a long time Linux user and I
only use Windows at work, but although I'd be glad to have more people
join the free software movement, nobody has to.
