I see you read iohannes docs. There are also some simpler examples in
the pd dir in doc/6.externs. You also might want to look at the cvs external
collection here: http://pure-data.sourceforge.net/ , there is a lot to read 
and build up upon.

If you are more comfortable with c++ you might want to give flext a shot

I did not understand what the external should be doing though ..
