ah yes, this is a problem, and it is *not* possible in Gem for now (or i 
am missing something, which might well be;-))
i had to do the same thing about 1 month ago, and it turned out to 
complicated (as i wanted to do it in pd without modifying the Gem-sources)

the idea was, to keep track of each particle in plain pd (arrays) and 
give it an offset according to the position of the praticle's origin, 
which was then applied to each particle with [translateXYZ].
however this didn't work properly, since the indices of particles are 
not constant but are reallocated as particles are born/die.
but since it was a rought simulation of an old 8bit-game i didn't care 
to much about exactness then....
