i just checked out the pixvid binaries and the documentation confirms what
you just said:

Usage:
~~~~~~
Load after GEM when using PD.
For example, this is my PD invocation:
c:\pd\bin\pd -path c:\pd\gem-0.87;c:\pd\jade -lib Gem;pix_video_ds
where pix_video_ds has been installed into
c:\pd\jade\ on my system.
