you could use the openGL-wrapping stuff to have full control over each 
vertex for now (of course chris's array stuff would be more effective)

surely not in 0.888, but since i hope this will be out soon, the vertex 
array stuff might appear in the CVS in near future... (depends on chris 
of course)
