I recently tryed to build a Mandrake Linux System and found it very
difficult, since the machine was not directly linked to the web, and most of the
installers are web-based. For this reason I would suggest trying Red Hat, since
Stanford has a good working linux version of pd, and they seem to have support
for it. If I were to do it again I might still try mandrake, just at that time
it didn't work out.
