[PD] GEM problems

hello-

i've been using pd 0.37 on osx for quite some time now with no major troubles, 
and had just summoned the confidence to move into the realm of gem, when i 
encountered the following issues trying to load an example patch:

 gemwin
... couldn't create
 gemhead
... couldn't create
 rotate
... couldn't create
 color
... couldn't create
 square
... couldn't create

i was wondering whether anyone might be able to interpret these errors more 
usefully than i am able to and tell me what might be done in order to get gem 
up and rendering.

oh, and i'm using pd and gem from hans' installer on pure-data.org, if that's 
any help.
