You might investigate this firmware version problem. There are different 
stories going around about whether or not you [need to/are able to] 
downgrade the firmware of an HDSP made after a certain date. ALSA list 
might also be a good place to check. This downgrade is only possible 
using windoze utilities, unfortunately...

Does it run under just ALSA? What about OSS/OSS emulation?
