[PD] updating PD

OK,
I know this is an easy question.  I have PD extended .37 installed on my mac 
running OSX 10.3.  I want to update PD to .37-1test so I can use jack.  My 
very is question is this: what is the best way to update, what files should 
get replaced and where?  Very new to anything that requires more than a 
simple click install so bear with my very newbie question.
