[PD] Shortening Delays using PD with Windows XP

Hello everyone, 

        I have been using PD with windows XP and RME card HDSP 9632. Even with a basic patch I am getting a significant delay in the signal ouput. I am using PD to filter speech and would like to use a band reject filter. However, even with a basic low pass filter I am still getting delays. I know others have had success in getting lesser values in the delay. If anyone could let me know how to do this it would be greatly appreciated.
