[PD] auto login + auto run pd on linux

hi,
i have made an installation using pd and am migrating it to a planetccrma box from a windows machine - i need the patch to open automaticaly when the system boots up - in windows i just put a shortcut to my .bat file in the startup folder which worked fine. how do i do this in Linux?
also i have stupidly locked myself out my root account by:
chsh -s /sbin/nologin
i thought this would bypass the login procedure - whoops!
how can i get my root account back?
this is my real problem at the moment
