[PD] -mididev flag bug

hi,

under linux the -mididev flag doesn't seem to work
-mididev 1 gives:
couldn't open MIDI input device -1
couldn't open MIDI output device -1
opened 0 MIDI input device(s) and 0 MIDI output device(s).

i know it will work via the MIDI settings in the Media menu of the PD
gui but i have made a -nogui box+midi controller system and this is
getting in my way.

anyone know of a fix for this? maybe i can send a message to the gui for
example?

i have seen this problem on the list before - i don't think it is a
hardware issue but anyway i'm using the hdsp multiface on:
