hi.
as you might have noticed from the Gem-installation troubles, pd alone is *not*
enough to run an external (this is what an "abstraction" is: something, pd can
understand by itself without the need of an external program (or external))
so you definitely need a compiler (doesn't have to be a "wincompiler"; i for
myself prefer a "lincompiler") and i *think* that almost any C-compiler (if you
are going to write in C) will suffice.
this is the missing part of the externals-HOWTO: how to actually compile the
external.
