[pd] audio glitch?

I hear a clicking sound that interrups the audio
stream of a smooth tone playing. I am testing the
sound from the test audio and midi help patch. I tried
to play just a regular CD which plays fine from the CD
application on Linux so I believe the sound card to be
working properly. I am on a Dell laptop with Planet
CCRMA Fedora Core install.

This is how I start PD:

<#################################################
[root at localhost root]# pd -rt -listdev
input devices:
1. ESS Maestro3 PCI (hardware)
2. ESS Maestro3 PCI (plug-in)
output devices:
1. ESS Maestro3 PCI (hardware)
2. ESS Maestro3 PCI (plug-in)
API number 1

no midi input devices found
no midi output devices found
priority 2 scheduling enabled.
memory locking enabled.
priority 4 scheduling enabled.
memory locking enabled.
couldn't open MIDI input device 0
couldn't open MIDI output device 0
opened 0 MIDI input device(s) and 0 MIDI output
device(s).
Sample width set to 2 bytes
################################################>

The DIO errors button will light up red which I assume
is a bad thing??
here is what I got when I clicked the DIO button.

I read something in CCRMA about tuning the scheduler
to run the audio aplication as SCHED_FIFO so it will
have a higher priority? I do not know anything about
this? I am running PD with the -rt flag and assume
that it is running at highest priority and have tested
the kernel for lowlatency by:

<################################################
[root at localhost /]# cat /proc/sys/kernel/lowlatency
1
#################################################>

What can I do to to test what is going wrong or to fix
this???
