not knowing anything about that object, it sounds like you are "missing 
the creation arguments". ... ie, you are probably just doing [formant~]  
when i would assume from this message that formant~ requires some values 
to configure it, something like :

[formant~ 666 1 2 3] 

filling in with real values of course.  have you read the docs/helpfiles?
