[PD] Choosing from a list of symbols?

Hi, I think that this question has been raised and answered before, but I 
didn't have any luck with an archive search, so I hope nobody's irritated if 
this is a repeat question.

I have a number of waves store in pd tables (say about 50 or so), and I would 
like to access them by number rather than name, so that it would be easy, for 
example, to scroll through the various waveforms.

So I think what I need is a mechanism where I can have a list of PD symbols 
and have an object that takes a number which is an index into this list, and 
outputs the corresponding symbol. Ideally, this list could be read from a 
text file, but since I am already generating other patches (like the tables) 
programatically, I'm not opposed to other options.

Any ideas?
