this is indeed weird.
gem-0.90 should be a *bit* worse in performance when using *a lot of* objects
compared to older version (<=0.87): this is the prize for having dynamic
render-graphs.

what does incredibly slow mean to you:
video-processing ?
just openGL-processing (e.g: some rotates, translates and goes like [square])
particle processing ?
???
