Ok try the following:

- add a single pix_film object - render just this

- add any pix processing you want to use - render this and the pix_film

- add pix_texture - render the whole chain

This will help determine what part of the chain loads the CPU.

Do other apps play the same AVI fine?  What about using Quicktime files in GEM? 
Do those also do the same thing?
