yes, there is an external called xeq 
(>http://suita.chopin.edu.pl/~czaja/miXed/externs/xeq.html<) but the 
server seems to be down at the moment. Maybe there are some other 
ressources. You should have a look at it because playing midi files 
using xeq is really simple.
