Not all of the Athlons have SSE.  The early ones do not, while the XP 
have some limited support for SSE (but not SSE2) as part of 3DNow! (the 
exclamation mark is the best part of that feature).  If you use SSE2 
then only the 64 bit AMD chips will run that, and from some of the 
tests I've seen they don't do a great job.
