Hi thewade,

I would *unrecommend* using ALSA kernel modules. For some reason, ALSA 
simply builds and runs better when you compile it seperately. Can't 
explain why. Just does. Make sure you compile with all needed options, 
including sequencer, and also the virmidi module, which helps a lot if 
you use the new MIDI connections availble via JACK [hottest thing since 
sliced bread, I tell ya!].
