[PD] linux midi question

I've noticed that PD seems to need exclusive access to the OSS MIDI 
device on my system. In QJackctl, for example, the first DSP MIDI port 
refuses to connect to anything when PD has ahold of it. In fact, I can't 
even 'cat' the raw device when PD is using it. I'd like to also use MIDI 
with Ardour, for example. Is there a way to give PD non-exclusive use of 
the MIDI ports?
