I was using the 'fullscreen' message with pd_xv, but still have borders.

I think I will try the .xinitrc way which MvH suggested, which seems most suited 
to my setup, since it's an embedded application, without keyboard/mouse.

The Python EvilWM trick from Frank also sounds attractive to me though, in a 
nerdy kind of way ;)
